Dorothy's Dancing Unlimited


Dorothy Sylvester, Founder  
Having enviable credits in dance, Dorothy has entertained audiences with some of the finest names of stage, television and film and has appeared with many celebrities. Her professional travels have taken her throughout the United States, to Canada and Europe. Her dedication, teamed with the excellent teaching staff, has helped fulfill her goals of giving each student the personal and individual attention needed to achieve their full potential. Dorothy is retired from the studio, but returns for our recital each year.

Karyn Fowler, Owner

Karyn Fowler is the owner and director of Dorothy's Dancing Unlimited. She began her dance career at age seven and has traveled extensively studying with top instructors in the country. If you have any questions, Karyn is the person to contact.

T'Lyn Candella (Creative, Hip Hop, Intro To Dance)
T'Lyn has been part of the Dorothy's Dancing Unlimited family since she was three years old first as a student, then as a student demonstrator, and now as a teacher. She has studied tap, ballet, hip hop, jazz, contemporary, lyrical, modern, and acrobatics, and enjoys all styles of dance. In high school T'Lyn was on the Lake Park Lancettes for four years, and she went on to coach a high school dance team that took fourth place in State competition. T'Lyn continued dancing while attending Dominican University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree. We are thrilled to have T'Lyn on the staff!

Donna Johnson (Tap)

Donna Johnson has been teaching dance for the past thirty years. She is the Artistic Director of the "Steppin' Out" Dance company. Her dancers are regional and national dance champions. In 2015 her dance team won the Association of Dance Competitions and Conventions studio Excellence Award. She has trained in all areas of dance but her expertise and passion is in tap.

Her routines are always showstoppers and we love having Donna on our staff.

Ashley Lanham/Watson (Creative, Hip Hop, Intro To Dance, Jazz, Lyrical, Musical Theatre)

Ashley Lanham-Watson is a graduate of Illinois State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. Ashley has been a part of Dorothy's Dancing Unlimited since she was 2 ½ years old. She has studied ballet, hip hop, jazz, lyrical, musical theater, modern, and tap with numerous instructors. In high school, Ashley was a member and choreographer of the Orchesis dance team and was also a captain for two of those years.

Ashley has also performed locally with Schaumburg on Stage and HOTT Productions in productions of Bye Bye Birdie, Grease, and 42nd Street. Ashley continued her dance training through college courses as well. For her final two years of college, she diversified her experience by joining a hip hop group, the Black Diamonds Dance Troupe. Ashley is very excited and looks forward to being a part of the studio once again and as a member of the staff.

 Stephanie Michalowski (Ballet, Contemporary, Intro To Dance, Jazz)

  Stephanie grew up in the area and began dancing at the age of two at a local studio. She continued her training through high school and college. She has studied ballet, jazz, modern, tap, lyrical, and many other styles. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in dance education from Illinois State University. She was a member of Illinois State Dance Theatre where she trained under Sara Semonis, Greg Merriman, Laurie Merriman, and Darby Wilde. She has worked with many other choreographers such as Eddy Ocampo, Richard Smith, Joanna Rosenthal, Sasha Vargas, and Brent Caburnay. She began teaching 6 years ago and has also worked with some high school dance teams and after school programs. She has preformed in many different shows and showcases throughout the years. We are happy to have Stephanie at Dorothy's Dancing Unlimited! 

Kelli Myhre-Bahwell (Contemporary, Jazz, Turns & Leaps)

Dancing has been a part of Kelli's life since the early age of three and she has been teaching dance at various studios in the Chicagoland area for the past 21 years. Kelli received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Dance from Illinois State University. She also has two Associate of Applied Science Degrees in Art, one from Elgin Community College and the other from The Illinois Institute of Art specializing in Graphic Design. She has been a performer and choreographer in numerous dance competitions and conventions and received many choreography awards. Being a teacher and choreographer has taken Kelli to many places including England and Guatemala where she was an international choreographer/teacher, hired to do master classes and be a cocreator for an entire concert. Teaching dance is her passion and dance is her life.

Debra Nanni (Ballet, Modern)

A native of Buffalo, NY,  living in Chicago, Debra started her performing career at Gus Giordano's Jazz Dance Chicago.  She was privileged to be a soloist and company member for The Chicago Dance Medium as well as an independent performer with many affluent dancers from companies in Chicago and abroad. 


She enjoyed her professional performing career in modern, contemporary ballet, jazz, lyrical and in production companies.  Debra was the Owner and the Artistic Director of Progressive Movement Academy where her competitive teams enjoyed many top national 1st placements along with choreographic awards.  Currently, she teaches and choreographs at various private studios throughout the Chicago area and with professional companies such as Inaside Chicago Dance and Meraki Dance Company.  

Debra loves teaching master classes nationally with professional dance workshops at independent studios and on the convention circuit. She is proudly in her 10th year of teaching in Austria and Italy for Balletshule Zechner and created two international works on ballet company F.V.G Neu Space in Udine Italy which has been seen on international television. 

With her extensive knowledge in all areas of dance, Debra is in her 20th year as an adjudicator for various national dance and talent competitions. Through Debra’s teachings, her students have received many college scholarships, employment in the entertainment and television industry, professional companies and performances with nationally and internationally known recording artists. We are thrilled to have Debra on our staff!

Pam Parchim (Acrobatics)

Pam has studied ballet since she was three years old, with additional studies in jazz, tap and tumbling. For many years she competed in tumbling and gymnastics and was a sectional qualifier for the floor exercise her senior year. Pam also choreographed many dance routines for her high school Orchesis dance team and choreographed and produced the America’s Junior Miss Program for the state of Illinois. She was the Director of Recreational Gymnastics at Northbrook Gymnastics Training Center and was assistant coach for the Maine West High School girls’ gymnastics team. Pam received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Athletic Training from Carthage College and her Masters of Science in Human Nutrition from the University of Bridgeport. Pam has been part of Dorothy’s Dancing Unlimited for 8 years and is passionate about her choreography, creating unique routines that have a theme and tell a story.

Jamie Swanson (Intro To Dance, Jazz, Tap)

Jamie grew up dancing at Dorothy's Dancing Unlimited. She studied all forms of dance but she likes tap the best! Throughout her teens, Jamie studied with some of the top dance intructors in the Chicago area, including Hank Crabtree. We are happy to have Jamie back at the studio as a teacher, sharing her love and enthusiasm for dance with a new generation of students!

Heather Talken (Jazz, Lyrical, Tap)

Heather began dancing at DOROTHY'S DANCING UNLIMITED when she was only three years old. She trained in ballet, jazz, pointe, tap, modern, lyrical, and ballroom. While attending Schaumburg High School, she successfully directed three years of the Orchesis program and helped expand the program to include all forms of dance. Heather went on to become a dance major at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana in 1997. After college she took a short break to focus on a career in commercial real estate. In 2010 she rejoined the Dorothy's family and is incredibly excited to be a part of the faculty here. Heather has a renewed passion for dance and cannot wait to share this with all of her students.
